ROUTES IN THE COLD DARK NORTH
Blesséd are the Routemakers, for they shall inherit the Earth.
We take great pride in knowing the lanes, the climbs, the dead-ends worth exploring and the ways to connect them all. From Preston to Penrith and the Atlantic to Aysgarth. So route-planning for visitors to the #ColdDarkNorth is one of our favourite activities.
It's easy enough to replicate the route of the Fred Whitton or the Lakes & Dales Loop, to take on the Etape du Dales or any number of commercial sportives in the Forest of Bowland. But we feel bespoke is better. A route that's tailored to your needs, your group, your ability and your objectives is much more likely to give you the lasting memories your trip to the North West deserves.

We don't charge for route-planning services. We ask for a small donation to a chosen charity for our time, effort and local knowledge. Oh, and if you're sharing your journey on social media make sure your friends know who sent you to the best bits of the best bit of Britain.

If you're not looking for bespoke, but want an idea of what to ride, we've created a set of seven brilliant ~100km routes to #explorelocal from some of the biggest towns and cities in our area. Each route is challenging but achievable and will take you to some of the most beautiful places you've ever seen - from the summit of Britain's highest road to the deserted Western Lakes. The routes are loops from transport hubs in Preston, Penrith, Sedbergh, Carlisle, Kendal, Lancaster and Barrow.
